After losing her father, Josh, to multiple myeloma, Kelly McLean-Leonard is taking on the triathlon in his honour. Together, the McLean-Leonard family is partnering with DKMS Africa to raise awareness, recruit stem cell donors, and support those affected by blood cancer
Josh Leonard was a devoted husband and father whose diagnosis changed everything for his family. After being diagnosed with multiple myeloma, he underwent three years of treatment before sadly passing away.
Now, his wife Sandra and daughters Kelly and Hannah are honouring his memory by turning their grief into action through a campaign focused on awareness, donor recruitment, and fundraising for DKMS Africa.
As part of the campaign, Kelly will take on the Ironman in honour of her father, using the event to raise awareness of blood cancer and the urgent need for more committed stem cell donors.
Alongside Kelly’s journey, the family will share Josh’s story through a virtual fundraising and awareness drive in partnership with DKMS Africa. Their hope is to encourage more people to register as stem cell donors, support families affected by blood cancer, and help create second chances for patients still searching for a match.
The family also hopes Josh’s story will inspire action, whether that means registering as a donor, supporting the fundraiser, or simply helping to spread awareness.
In the coming weeks, follow Kelly’s Ironman journey, share the campaign with your community, and help the Leonard family honour Josh’s legacy in a meaningful way.
You can support the campaign by registering as a stem cell donor or contributing to the fundraiser today.
All funds raised through this campaign will go directly to DKMS Africa to support donor recruitment and patient support initiatives.
